Featured Photo - August 2005

This undated photo, circa 1900, shows an unidentified uniformed officer beside his patrol vehicle. Although bicycles are commonly used today for police patrols, their use isn't normally thought of in the early days of law enforcement. In a number of police departments, bicycles were deployed prior to the use of motorcycles and motor cars, due to the reduced cost and lack of motorized vehicles in use on the roadways.
